Mallorca already has its first 100% electric hotel without emissions

26 April, 2023

The Iberostar Hotels & Resorts chain has reopened its iconic Iberostar Cristina hotel in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, after an update in its energy supply that has completely eliminated the consumption of fossil fuels in favour of electricity with guarantees of renewable origin, reducing its carbon footprint to zero without compromising the customer experience.

The company has stated that all possible measures are being taken to promote electrification, increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce the consumption of resources as fundamental pillars to decarbonise all operations, “always guaranteeing the highest quality to our customers”, after an investment in state-of-the-art technology and training of the kitchen team.

In this hotel, Iberostar has replaced fossil fuels such as gas in kitchens and laundry rooms with induction hobs and electric dryers, respectively, as well as natural gas boilers with heat pumps for heating and domestic hot water. From now on, the hotel's electricity comes partly from photovoltaic self-consumption.
