Smart video surveillance in Spanish train stations

17 May, 2023

Renfe will create a network of Smart Security Centres whereby specialised personnel will carry out the necessary control actions for the proper functioning of smart video analytics systems installed in nearly 500 commuter train stations throughout the national territory.

As part of the 'Renfe Smart Security Station' (RS3) project, which should culminate in 2024 and which is part of the European Union's NextGeneration EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, this new network of centres will have data exploitation as functions to improve decision making and optimisation of security resources.

The new smart centres will be able to respond independently, predictively and efficiently to incidents, alerts and emergencies. For example, they will monitor security alarms in real time (crowds, people falling onto the track, etc.). They will also allow data to be recorded in real time by digitising their assets.
