Spanish campsites, increasingly attractive

31 May, 2023

The demand for alternative accommodation is a trend that continues and has played in favour of campsites in the last three years. There are 10% more guests since the pandemic. The II Pitchup Trends Report prepared by the Pitchup platform has confirmed that occupancy in the first quarter of 2023 has grown by 47% compared to last year and 54% compared to the figures for 2019.

The report highlights that traditional coastal campsites, aimed at families, have enriched their facilities with increasingly extensive services, thus attracting a more varied audience. In addition, new glamping models have been created, sites with heating and Jacuzzi, or domes for stargazing, competing with quality boutique hotels.

In the first quarter of the year, reservations through Pitchup increased by 50.55% and more than 6,270 nights were reserved in Spanish campsites, up 72.66% as compared to the January-March 2019 period. Between the autumn-winter season of 2019-20201 and that of 2022-2023, an increase of 47.14% in reservations is seen and 47.36% compared to that of 2021-2022.
