Large dogs can already travel in Spanish trains
5 July, 2023Renfe has extended the Friendly Transport Service for dogs up to 40 kilos to the Madrid-Alicante route on 19 June and to the Madrid-València route on 26 June. These new services join those already existing on certain AVE trains on the Madrid-Barcelona (with a stop in Zaragoza) and Madrid-Malaga lines. Tickets are already available on sale on the website.
Since the start of the Large Pet Project on 13 September, Renfe has transported 800 “large” dogs on its AVE trains, reflecting the importance for passengers of being able to travel with their pets. From the data extracted from the study, it can be seen that customers who travel with dogs do so mainly at weekends and during the holiday season.
Travel with dogs up to 40 kilos is available exclusively on a selection of trains. Specifically, on the Madrid-Barcelona, four AVE services are offered per day in each direction. The Madrid-Malaga route has two direct AVE services and two semi-direct or with stops are offered on weekdays, and one direct and one semi-direct service at weekends.
