Iryo inaugurates Madrid-Tarragona high-speed connection

5 July, 2023

Spanish private high-speed rail operator Iryo made its first trip between Madrid Atocha and Camp de Tarragona stations in mid-June, with a stop at Zaragoza's Delicias station. The company will have two daily frequencies (one in each direction). With these new commercial operations, Iryo now has34 daily frequencies with Catalonia, adding those of Barcelona and Tarragona.

In turn, Xavier Flores, Secretary General of Infrastructures of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), highlighted that Iryo “is revolutionising the railway and mobility sector. As a result, the premiere of its new connection to Tarragona continues to highlight the success of liberalisation: a shared success that undoubtedly translates into benefits for citizens.”

Iryo began its commercial operations on 25 November 2022 between Madrid, Zaragoza and Barcelona, and on 16 December, it arrived in Valencia and Cuenca. Following its roadmap, on 31 March it inaugurated the connection with Andalusia, reaching Cordoba, Malaga and Seville, on 2 June to Albacete, Alicante and Antequera, and finally on 15 June it reached Camp de Tarragona.
