Tourism to Madrid is growing well above the Spanish average

16 August, 2023

The survey of the National Statistics Institute (INE) has indicated that in Madrid travellers have increased by 12.3% compared to June 2022 and overnight stays by 8.3%. Both percentages are well above the average for Spain, which recorded an increase of 4.7% in travellers in June and 3.3% in overnight stays.

In annual terms, accumulating the last twelve months up to June 2023, the number of travellers to the Spanish capital is around 9.4 million, which represents a year-on-year increase of 27.4%, above the Spanish average (20.7%). Madrid's policies of decentralisation and de-seasonalisation of tourism are bearing fruit, according to the city council.
