Tourism to Madrid is growing well above the Spanish average
16 August, 2023The survey of the National Statistics Institute (INE) has indicated that in Madrid travellers have increased by 12.3% compared to June 2022 and overnight stays by 8.3%. Both percentages are well above the average for Spain, which recorded an increase of 4.7% in travellers in June and 3.3% in overnight stays.
In annual terms, accumulating the last twelve months up to June 2023, the number of travellers to the Spanish capital is around 9.4 million, which represents a year-on-year increase of 27.4%, above the Spanish average (20.7%). Madrid's policies of decentralisation and de-seasonalisation of tourism are bearing fruit, according to the city council.
Among the results, the occupancy rate of hotel beds has grown by more than 3 points compared to June 2022 and, more importantly, employment in hotel establishments grew by 21.5 % on average per year, according to the INE, to 12,650 workers.
