Calviá promotes responsible tourism in Magaluf

30 August, 2023

The municipality of Calviá has launched the 'Working table to promote responsible tourism', to promote “a public-private consensus collaboration to consolidate Magaluf as a quality destination and to convey to all our visitors that they are welcome, but within a framework of compliance with the regulations”, as the mayor of Calvià stressed at the conclusion of the meeting.

This first session of the working group had 22 members, including the British Consul and representatives of the tour operators TUI and Jet2 Holidays, as well as a university expert in tourism contracting from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and of course local authorities and representatives of the different areas of the tourism sector.

The round table will result in an action plan to align the public-private initiative and promote responsible tourism at source, with advertising in line with this idea. During the conference, the participants presented the different problems in the area, reiterating that the tourists who cause problems are a minority and that this tourism is always linked to excessive alcohol consumption, which is cheap and readily available.
