Historic record of passengers in Spanish airports in August

Spanish airports closed August 2023 with an all-time record of almost 30 million passengers (29,890,357), a figure that is +9.5% more than in the same month of 2022 and exceeds the all-time record before the pandemic, in 2019, by +1.4%. On the other hand, Aena managed 235,938 aircraft movements, +5.7% more than in 2022.

Of the total number of passengers in August, of 29,825,273 commercial passengers, 20,592,197 related to international flights. From January to August 2023, 189,099,532 passengers (+18.7%) went through Aena network airports, which is +1.2% higher than the record figure for 2019. During this period, 1,608,918 aircraft movements were managed (+8.9%).

Passenger flow per airport

  • Madrid-Barajas: 5,559,790 passengers (+11.5% compared to August 2022).

  • Barcelona-El Prat: 4,974,579 passengers (+11.4%).

  • Palma de Mallorca: 4,371,606 passengers (+5%).

  • Malaga: 2,419,072 passengers (+17.8%).

  • Alicante: 1,702,139 passengers (+12.6%).

  • Ibiza: 1,435,874 passengers (+5.5%).

  • Gran Canaria: 1,129,345 passengers (+3.6%).

  • Valencia: 1,072,418 passengers (+18.7%).
