Palma hotel will be a world pioneer in consuming green hydrogen
18 October, 2023The Iberostar Bahía de Palma hotel in Mallorca will be the first hotel in the world to be equipped with a green hydrogen fuel cell for cogeneration. The installation will be carried out by Redexis and will have an estimated consumption of at least 10 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year to produce up to 50 KW of power which will supply more than 70% of the hotel’s thermal energy.
This technology will also allow the resort to consume part of its electrical energy directly from the fuel cell. In addition, all Iberostar hotels in Spain already consume electricity with a guarantee of renewable origin, so that 100% of the electricity supply of this hotel complex is totally sustainable and does not emit a CO2 footprint.
Gloria Fluxà, Vice President & Chief Sustainability Officer of the Iberostar Group, commented that “this innovative commitment illustrates our commitment to gradually extend the use of clean energy to all our hotels around the world and lead the energy transition in the tourism sector”.
