The travel activity website Musement has created a list of its users’ favourite destinations, highlighting castles and palaces. The platform has based its ranking on the number of reviews received through Google. Over 3,800 places of interest in Europe were analysed for the study and the ones that received the most positive comments and opinions were then selected. There are two Spanish places in the Top 10.

At number 6 is the Alhambra in Granada, one of Spain’s greatest architectural treasures. The Nasrid palaces were the culmination of Andalusian art in Spain, a precious treasure chest full of stucco, muqarnas, mosaics and gardens that transport the traveller in space and time.

And at number 8 is the Royal Palace of Madrid. After the old Alcazar de los Austrias burnt down in 1734, Felipe V ordered this icon of the new dynasty to be built on the same site. It is a magnificent complex, built around the Courtyards of Arms and the Prince’s Courtyard. It occupies 135,000 m2 and has 3,418 rooms. Among the most luxurious are the Royal Armoury, the Royal Chapel, the Throne Room and the Gallery of Paintings.
