Tourists visiting Madrid increase by almost 10% in September
15 November, 2023Madrid welcomed almost 896,000 tourists in September, which represents an increase of 9.6% compared to the same month last year, reaching the maximum in the historical series in the month of September; a figure that places tourism in the capital above the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey of the National Statistics Institute (INE).
International tourism has increased by almost 15% compared to September 2022, an increase of about 4% compared to pre-pandemic levels. In the accumulated total for the last twelve months, there were nearly 9,760,000 passengers in Madrid, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.4%.
In the same period, tourism in Spain increased by 11.2%. The employment figures for the sector stand out, which in hotel establishments grew by 9.4 % to nearly 13,000 workers and which in the annual average increased by almost 14 %.
