Turespaña and the Royal Academy of Gastronomy promote Spanish cooking
27 December, 2023The Royal Academy of Gastronomy (RAG) and the Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña) have signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen the promotion of Spain as a gastronomic destination internationally. Under this umbrella, both institutions will develop marketing and promotion actions for Spanish gastronomy as one of the country’s main tourist attractions.
In 2022, of the 71.7 million tourists who visited Spain, more than 17 million tourists claimed to have carried out enogastronomic activities, representing 24% of all tourists. Tourists spent €22,704 M on food and wine activities, 26% of total expenditure, which places it in 6th position among the activities that generate the most spending.
Furthermore, gastronomic tourism forms a complementary part of other travel motivations, such as cultural tourism. According to EGATUR (INE) in 2022, tourists who reported having taken part in gastronomic activities mostly mentioned cultural tourism as their main reason for travelling (41%).
