Baleària presents its two new eco-efficient ferries

7 February, 2024

Baleària has shown the main features of its second gas-powered fast ferry. The Margarita Salas vessel is in its final phase of construction at the Armon shipyard in Gijón and is scheduled to begin operating next June on the Barcelona-Ciutadella-Alcúdia route.

The Margarita Salas improves the most competitive features of its twin Eleanor Roosevelt, the fast ferry pioneer in innovation and sustainability which has connected Dénia-Eivissa-Palma since May 2021. The new ship, which will link Barcelona with Mallorca and Menorca, will increase its power by 10% and will be more spacious than its sister ship, thanks to the addition of a second passenger deck.

So, from this summer, Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa will be connected to the mainland by fast ferries that run on natural gas. And don’t forget that the connections between Eivissa and Formentera have Spain’s first electric ferry with zero emissions in port.
