27 March, 2024

The arrival of international tourists to Spain and tourist spending at the destination continue the positive trend of 2023 and this year already shows remarkable growth. Last January, there were 4.8 million international tourists, 15.3% more than in January 2023, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

And Spain once again broke its record for tourist spending in January. Foreign visitors brought in 6,550 million euros, which represents an increase of 25.5% compared to January last year. By nationality, the British continue to top the list of outbound countries, with 833,416 tourists in the first month of 2024, up 12.3%. They also spent 26.7% more, 16.4% of the total.

For the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, “the uninterrupted growth of tourists, and above all of tourist spending, should serve as a stimulus for us to continue helping the sector with public policies aimed at improving social, environmental and digital sustainability indices. Being a leading destination is always good news, and we must continue working to not only lead the way in tourist preferences”, he said.
