Volotea, first Spanish airline in the Safety Management System

24 April, 2024

The airline Volotea has obtained full Safety Management System (SMS) approval from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA). This approval is an exceptional achievement for the company, which has made a considerable effort to become the first scheduled airline to obtain this certification before the deadline set by the new EASA regulations, set for the end of 2024.

Until now, the certification only allowed the monitoring of operations and maintenance management by third parties via SMS. Now, in accordance with the provisions of Appendix 145 of the European regulation, the airline has extended the scope to include full maintenance management, i.e. including in-house maintenance.

This extension further consolidates safety and quality standards in all Volotea operations. Currently, the airline has a team of 42 highly trained and certified aircraft mechanics, who meet the strictest industry standards and whose priority is operational excellence and flight safety.
