Where can you enjoy the best cheese sandwich in Spain?
8 May, 2024Fuerteventura chef Kevin Díaz won the ‘Best Cheese Sandwich in Spain’ competition at the 3rd edition of the Gran Canaria International Cheese Forum, promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The winning sandwich is a brioche bread with Flor de Guía cheese, a basil and cheese cream and young goat’s meat.
The jury was made up of five “heavyweights” of gastronomy and cheese: a gastronomic consultant, Ana Belén González, a food critic, José Carlos Capel and four chefs who together have a total of five Michelin stars: Ignacio Echapresto, Carito Lourenzo, Paco Morales and Borja Marrero.
Kevin’s sandwich is a tribute to the cheese of Gran Canaria with a product based on Flor de Guía cheese in all its preparations, from a spongy brioche bread to a basil and cheese cream. The winning sandwich will soon be available at Baruco de Anero in Cantabria, where the winning chef works.
