Michelin awards its first Keys to 97 Spanish hotels

15 May, 2024

The Michelin Guide has set out to apply the success of its well-positioned stars to the best hotels by giving them keys, in the words of its international director, Gwendal Poullennec, “those which, due to their uniqueness, offer the client unique experiences and memorable recollections”.

Spain was the third country chosen to present this new distinction, which has been awarded to 97 establishments: 80 with 1 Key, which rewards “a very special stay”; 12 with 2 Keys, “exceptional”; and five with 3 Keys, “an extraordinary stay”.

The selection of hotels provides users with recommendations for a complete travel experience according to its team of inspectors. In fact, the Michelin Keys in its three categories do not necessarily correspond to the official hotel classification as they “distinguish establishments that exceed the standards”, stressed Poullennec.
