A Spanish airport among the top 10 busiest airports worldwide
22 May, 2024Airports Council International (ACI) World has advanced the ranking of international airports by passenger and flight traffic, with a list of the 10 busiest airports in the world in 2023. The list collates over 2,600 airports from 180 countries and, a Spanish airport stands out in the top positions in the section on international passengers.
As regards international passengers, Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez airport closes the Top 10 list. In total, according to ACI World estimates, over 43.7 million international passengers passed through the Madrid airport in 2023.
The Top 10 airports, which represent nearly 10% of global traffic (806 million passengers), experienced an increase of 19.8% compared to 2022 or 0.7% in relation to their 2019 results (801 million passengers in 2019). Global passenger traffic, with an estimated figure of 8.5 billion, continues to recover records, driven by international flights.
