Facial recognition takes a new step forward in Spanish airports

22 May, 2024

The airline Air Europa has launched an innovative facial recognition project at Madrid-Barajas and Palma de Mallorca airports, part of the AENA network, which allows its passengers enrolled in the programme to go faster through security control and access to the boarding gate at the points set up for this purpose.

The new facial recognition devices consist of special access gates equipped with a document reading system and a camera to identify the pre-registered passenger. If the image matches that of the valid documents, the door will open.

Thanks to this initiative, users can make their transit on the ground without showing their documentation, avoiding queues and guaranteeing the security of the operation at all times. The use of this technology is voluntary.
