Gran Canaria to host the world’s largest golf tour operator congress
19 June, 2024In May, a delegation from Gran Canaria Tourism took part in the European Golf Tour Operators Congress - IAGTO European Convention, which was held in the city of Malaga. At the event, the president and founder of the International Association of Golf TTOOs, IAGTO, Peter Walton, announced that the island of Gran Canaria will host the 2025 edition.
The congress will take place again in May, with the participation of over 800 specialised golf tour operators from 69 countries. “This is one of the most important events linked to tourism and golf in the world and represents a strategic opportunity for our destination, as we will have the main operators and a significant part of the golf market in Europe practically exclusively,” commented the Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo.
The spokesman explained that currently 2.5% of all tourist visitors to Gran Canaria say that golf is the main interest of their trip and stay on the island, or that it will be an important part of their presence on the island.
