5 Spanish airports among those which grow the most in Europe
19 June, 2024Passenger traffic on the European airport network increased by +8.5% in April compared to the same month last year, moving closer to full recovery, after settling just -0.2% below pre-pandemic (2019) volumes, according to the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) traffic report.
In the report, Spain stood out among the region’s five major air markets for its recovery over pre-pandemic levels, with a +10.8% rebound, as well as the performance of five Spanish airports in the AENA network in their respective categories.
Among the major airports - main hubs in the region and base for the major European network operators - Madrid-Barajas stands out (+10.6%), which has also recovered to +6.7% above its April 2019 traffic. In the Mega class, Palma de Mallorca (+11.7%). Among medium-sized ones, Girona (+87.9%) and Reus (+87.4%), and among small ones, Castellón (+139.8%).
