Mastercard reveals tourists’ 3 favourite Spanish destinations
3 July, 2024The Mastercard Economic Institute has presented the report 'Travel Industry Trends 2024', which points to a growth in the tourism sector worldwide, with Spain as one of the leading countries, registering a significant increase in passengers and days of holiday stay.
According to the study, Madrid is one of international travellers’ favourite capital cities and also one with the highest expenditure per visitor. In terms of beach destinations, Malaga is among the top choices for several nationalities; while Mallorca is in fact one of the most popular destinations for visitors from all over Europe.
On the other hand, the report reveals that Spain is home to six of the top 20 destinations for nightlife, including Barcelona, Marbella, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid and Ibiza. While, when it comes to enjoying a party on the beach, Mastercard highlights Malaga, Mallorca and Ibiza as the preferred options.
“Today’s tourists are discerning and choose unique destinations which translates into higher spending and longer stays,” said Natalia Lechmanova, senior economist for Europe, Middle East and Africa at the Mastercard Economics Institute.
