Operation Summer: 4,400 police officers reinforce tourism security

A total of 4,407 agents, including National Police and Guardia Civil, are reinforcing security in the nine regions of Spain with the greatest tourist influx during Operation Summer, which began on 1 July and will last until 31 August, which will be 30 September in the case of the Balearic Islands.

Specifically, this operation is being carried out in Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, Galicia, Murcia and Madrid. Surveillance is particularly focused on ports, airports, stations, beaches and hotels, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The National Police has reinforced its Citizen Security deployment - 22,471 personnel - with 2,724 new agents and others from the Cavalry, Canine Guides and Underground units, among others. As for the Guardia Civil, in addition to the 41,536 officers assigned to Public Security, a further 1,683 personnel have postponed their holidays.

The most reinforced tourist community is Andalusia, with a total of 1,442 personnel from both corps, followed by Madrid (831, Police only), the Valencian Community (718), the Canary Islands (357), Galicia (354) and the Balearic Islands (326).
