Oviedo promotes itself as a destination for meeting tourism
31 July, 2024The City Council of Oviedo (Asturias) has decided to stimulate meeting tourism in the city by means of an economic effort. To this end, it has approved a call for subsidies aimed at entities organising congresses, conventions and other events related to meeting tourism, an initiative that plans to distribute 100,000 euros to the proposals that will ensure a positive economic impact on the hotel and hospitality industry in the Asturian capital.
In previous editions, the local corporation has distributed up to 150,000 euros for the organisation of MICE events, but this year the rules for subsidies have been modified to focus on those activities that generate bookings and significant tourist expenditure.
In recent months, the City Council of Oviedo has confirmed that important congresses will be held in the three coming years. These include a national meeting of ophthalmologists that will bring together 2,000 attendees at the Exhibition and Conference Centre (Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos) and will take place in 2027.
