Madrid and Barcelona, among the best cultural destinations in Europe
14 August, 2024In the ranking of “The 10 best historical and cultural destinations in the European Union”, carried out by Booking.com, two Spanish cities feature: Barcelona in third position and Madrid in fifth. The ranking is based on the number of recommendations in the categories of architecture, culture, history, monuments, old town and museums given to the destination by travellers of this online travel agency (OTA) worldwide in June.
Barcelona has a large number of unique areas and buildings for cultural tourism enthusiasts, with several places declared World Heritage Sites, such as the historic centre and the many works by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí located in that city.
In the case of Madrid, Madrid also manages to make Booking.com’s list thanks to the fact that it includes the area around the Paseo del Prado, the Jerónimos neighbourhood and the Buen Retiro gardens, which are the most visited cultural areas in the city.
