Gran Canaria promoted as a destination for ornithological tourism in the UK

28 August, 2024

The Rutland Water Nature Reserve (England) hosted the latest edition of the Global Bird Fair, held from 12 to 14 July, once again consolidating itself as the most important event in ornithological tourism at a global level. Gran Canaria took part in the fair, which attracted more than 13,000 visitors and was attended by more than 300 exhibitors from 60 countries.

Known for its rich avifaunal diversity, Spain has become a favourite destination for European ornithologists, of which there are an estimated three million of them, which is why this meeting was an excellent opportunity to showcase the treasures that Gran Canaria holds for enthusiasts of this recreational and scientific pastime.

The island attended this fair together with Turespaña, sharing a stand with other Spanish regions, a united front that allowed for significant visibility. Guillermo Bernal, ecotourism guide at 'Gran Canaria SightSeeing' and an expert in birdwatching tourism was on hand to answer queries and provide detailed information about the destination.
