Alicante will have a new congress centre by 2027

18 September, 2024

The preliminary design competition for the new Alicante congress centre and the Suma operations centre, located between docks 7 and 9 of the city’s Port, has been definitively closed. The Provincial Council will now move forward with the contracting of the team in charge of drafting the project.

The next step is to formalise the commissioning of the drafting of the project to Frade Arquitectos, Luca Poian Forms Limited and Prointec, responsible for the winning proposal under the slogan 'San Carlos'. The selected design proposes three interconnected buildings: two towers for the auditorium and Suma’s offices, plus a multi-purpose building with a car park.

Alicante’s goal is to have the project completed within six months, which would allow the works to be put out to tender in the second half of 2025, provided that the necessary urban planning modifications are approved. Construction could start between late 2025 and early 2026, with an estimated duration of 30 months, so that the new congress centre will be built in 2027.
