18 September, 2024

Global aviation intelligence consultancy OAG has compiled the rankings of the 10 busiest European airports, the 10 busiest international airports and the 10 busiest global airports by number of seats operated in the month of August (domestic capacity + international capacity), based on the number of seats scheduled by airlines.

The ratings are based on the capacity operated in August 2024 compared to the equivalent month in 2023. The top 10 global airports are the world’s busiest airports based on total capacity (domestic and international) and the top 10 busiest international airports are ranked according to scheduled seats on international flights only.

In August 2024, the 10 busiest airports in Europe were the same as in July, with similar capacity. The two main Spanish airports in the Aena network in terms of passenger traffic are in the European ranking by scheduled seats in July: Madrid-Barajas, in sixth position, and Barcelona-El Prat, in seventh position, both maintaining the same places as last June.
