How can we discover Madrid through Pedro Almodóvar’s films?
2 October, 2024Madrid City Council has launched the map “Madrid, chica Almodóvar” which invites visitors to explore 272 Madrid locations from the 23 films by director Pedro Almodóvar. “Visitors are no longer just looking to photograph the streets but to get to know the urban history and the little stories behind them, and the cinema not only tells these stories, but also creates new ones that are woven into the fabric of the city”, commented the local authority.
Film and audiovisuals are becoming increasingly prominent as a resource for attracting tourism. In this sense, the map, published by Ocho y Medio Libros de Cine and sponsored by Madrid Film Office, has been designed as a collector’s item that can be purchased at the aforementioned bookshop, the shop at the Tourism Centre in Plaza Mayor and other points of sale.
The map of Madrid shows locations from the director's films, from 'Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom' to 'Parallel Mothers', including the short film 'The Human Voice'. It also includes descriptions with anecdotes, such as the fact that Almodóvar used his own home as a set for several films.
