Spain’s two most recommended destinations for travelling with dogs
9 October, 2024Barcelona and Madrid were the most recommended destinations for travelling with dogs in Spain, according to the international site Compare The Market, although they occupy very different positions. Barcelona, ranked 15th, is a great destination for dog lovers, with around 220 dog-friendly areas. These are divided into three categories, including small enclosures known as “pipicans”, where dogs can be walked off their leads in a safe, controlled environment.
In addition, the city offers some 45 larger dog parks, perfect for pets to run and play freely. This pet-friendly approach has made Barcelona an ideal destination for those travelling with their furry friends.
On the other hand, Madrid occupies 52nd place in the ranking, which also makes it an attractive city for pet owners, although not at the same level as Barcelona in terms of dog-friendly infrastructures. Even so, the Spanish capital has many parks and green spaces where dogs are welcome, as well as a growing number of pet-friendly restaurants, cafés and establishments.
