2 Spanish airports lead traffic growth in Europe
18 December, 2024The volume of passengers at Spanish airports increased by 5.5% in October compared to the same month last year, in line with the growth recorded in the previous quarter (+5.2%), according to ACI Europe. Barcelona airport outperforms the increase of European airports, with a growth of 8.2%, while Madrid airport equals the average.
The records of seven Spanish airports stand out, with Castellón airport leading the ranking with an increase of almost 190%. Also noteworthy is the growth of Palma airport, 19.4%, in the Mega category - between 25 and 40 million passengers per year. Alicante (+26%), Malaga (+29.6%) and Tenerife Sur (+25%) stand out in the category of large airports that have recovered the most compared to October 2019.

According to the October report of Airports Council International Europe, sustained growth in passenger traffic was maintained throughout the continent’s airport network. Passenger numbers increased by 5.5% compared to October 2023, while traffic volumes are now +3.3% above pre-pandemic levels.
