Renfe expands the routes on which you can travel with large dogs
8 January, 2025The main Spanish railway company, Renfe, has added Madrid-Seville to the routes where you can travel with dogs weighing up to 40 kilos. The company has explained that it has transported 7,260 dogs since it started offering this service in September 2022.
The new route where you can take the dogs is in addition to those offered to date: Madrid-Málaga, Madrid-Granada, Madrid-Alicante and Madrid-Valencia. In addition, on the Madrid-Barcelona line it will add other stops in Lleida Pirineus and Camp de Tarragona, and Girona and Figueres Vilafant will be added as new destinations.
Since the start of this service in 2022, large dogs have travelled without a carrier, while almost 400,000 dogs weighing up to 10 kilos have travelled in their carriers. Renfe allows one large dog per passenger, with a maximum of two per train, in a single carriage and always in a fixed space with two designated seats. There are no limits for small dogs, up to 10 kilos.
