2 Spanish destinations that the New York Times recommends visiting in 2025
22 January, 2025In 2025, two Spanish destinations have joined the New York Times’ list of the 52 places in the world that the most premium travellers should visit during the year. They are Canfranc, a small village in the Pyrenees of Huesca, near the French border, and Montserrat, the thousand-year-old monastery near Barcelona. While the Huesca village is in 24th place, the Catalan destination is in 41st place.
Canfranc, with its historic train station and its new five-star Royal Hydeaway Hotel of the Barceló Group, is an unfamiliar place for many travellers, despite its beauty and the great possibilities it offers for adventure tourism. Visiting magnificent glaciers, cycling trails and, of course, skiing are some of the activities that any visitor has at their fingertips.
Montserrat, meanwhile, is a Benedictine monastery with over 1,000 years of history, located an hour from Barcelona. The mountain, considered sacred to many and characterised by its imposing forms, offers a wide variety of outdoor activities to justify a getaway. Wine tasting, hiking, stargazing and religious tourism are just some of the activities on offer.
