How will Spain position itself as a leading LGBTI destination?
12 February, 2025The “España LGTBI” project was officially presented to the Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR). This innovative initiative, financed by the European Union’s Next Generation funds, positions Spain as a global leader in inclusive tourism.
The initiative represents a key part of the first LGBTI tourism strategy in Spain and forms part of the country’s Tourism Modernisation and Sustainability Plan. Similarly, this project is the result of collaboration between leading players in the tourism and LGBTI sectors, including Basquetour (the Basque Tourism Agency), ACOGAT (the Torremolinos Gay Merchants’ Association), Respira Comunicación, Shangay and Axel Hotels.
The “España LGTBI” project has been launched in response to the growing demand for safe, inclusive and personalised experiences for the LGBTI community. This project aims to meet the specific needs of this segment and promote destinations that celebrate diversity and foster respect, positioning Spain as an inclusive and sustainable tourist destination.
