Barcelona: a step towards more inclusive tourism
19 February, 2025Barcelona’s Provincial Council has taken a significant step towards more inclusive tourism by signing a letter of intent with Queer Destinations at FITUR 2025. This agreement seeks to strengthen the tourism offer of the Barcelona region, promoting the inclusion and safety of the LGBTQ+ community.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ana Herrera, Tourism Councillor for the Barcelona Provincial Council, Edgar Weggelaar, CEO of Queer Destinations, and Oriol Pamies, founder of the organisation, plus other key sector representatives. Weggelaar :“Barcelona’s Provincial Council is demonstrating a real commitment to inclusion by putting education and awareness-raising at the heart of this initiative.”

This collaboration will focus on training and raising awareness among those involved in the tourism sector on issues of diversity and inclusion. Through the Hospitality Meets Diversity programme, specialised training will be implemented to ensure that companies, destinations and professionals are prepared to serve LGBTQ+ travellers with respect and safety.
