Baleària launches its new sustainable fast ferry
5 March, 2025In February the Balearia shipping company presented the latest addition to its fleet, the natural gas-powered fast ferry ‘Margarita Salas’, which for the company represents an “example” of the commitment it is making to innovation and the environment in its new fleet reinforcements.
The ship is part of a series of five state-of-the-art Balearia catamarans powered by more sustainable energies, of which two are already in operation, the ‘Margarita Salas’ and the ‘Eleanor Roosevelt’, as highlighted at the official presentation.
The shipping company is building a third ship with similar characteristics which, like its predecessors, will be equipped with dual gas engines and the series will be completed with the construction of two other smaller electric fast ferries with zero emissions, which are scheduled to be built in the Asturian shipyards of Armon and completed in 2028.
