Spain’s leading sun and sand destinations in tourism competitiveness
21 May, 2025Adeje, Calvià and Playa de Palma top the ranking of the most competitive Spanish sun and sand destinations, according to the “Responsible Tourism Competitiveness Monitor” prepared by Exceltur. This report, included in the SolyTUR 2024 study, analyses the 20 holiday destinations with the highest volume of hotel overnight stays in Spain, which together represent 41.5% of the country’s sun and sand tourism demand.
The study is based on 63 indicators organised into seven key pillars: coastal conservation, diversification of tourism products, accessibility, quality of accommodation, public space management, governance and economic and social performance. The information used corresponds to data available up to 30 November 2024.
Exceltur points out that, although the leading destinations have significant strengths, all those included in the ranking have room for improvement. Moreover, the current context is characterised by high private investment in destinations.
