Air Europa focuses on sustainability with the new Boeing 737 MAX

21 May, 2025

Air Europa has reduced its CO₂ emissions by over 21% since 2015, moving closer to the 30% target set for 2030, based on 2024 year-end data. This progress has been made possible through fleet modernisation, the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the implementation of technological solutions to improve operational efficiency.

The airline has consolidated its fleet around the Boeing 787 for long haul and 737 for short and medium haul. This year it is adding three new Dreamliners and its first Boeing 737 MAX, which will operate on European and domestic routes and contribute to further reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

In addition, Air Europa has pioneered the use of SAF on flights such as Madrid-Havana and Madrid-Buenos Aires. In 2024, it incorporated the OptiClimb tool to optimise lift and minimise consumption, which will help to avoid 10,100 tonnes of emissions.

On the ground, the company applies single-engine taxiing protocols (SETO and SETI) and is making progress in the electrification of its vehicle fleet. These actions are part of the Vuelo 2030 project, which includes more than 40 measures towards comprehensive sustainability.
