Olive oil tourism 9 provinces promote thematic routes

2 July, 2025

Olive oil takes another step forward in its international projection as a symbol of identity and now also as a tourist product. The recently launched 'Oleoturismo España' project brings together the provincial councils of Jaén, Córdoba, Seville, Huelva, Granada, Cáceres, Badajoz, Ciudad Real and Tarragona, to create olive oil tourism routes and promoting new experiences in rural areas.

The proposal includes the creation of a 'Sustainable Tourism Experience Manual', the development of a specialised web platform and a comprehensive communication strategy. The first implementations will take place in the driving territories, with a clear focus on quality, digitalisation and the international projection of the product. The initiative is coordinated by the Spanish Association of Olive Municipalities (AEMO), which unites over 110 municipalities and entities linked to the sector.

The official presentation took place at the headquarters of the Secretary of State for Tourism, with the participation of the Minister Jordi Hereu, who highlighted Spain’s potential as a world leader in olive oil production and stressed that olive oil tourism allows for the decentralisation and deseasonalisation of tourism. The ministry has earmarked €8.6 million for this type of initiative as part of tourism sustainability programmes.
