Spain stands out in summer with five air routes in the top 10
2 July, 2025Spain’s attractiveness as a tourist destination is not only measured in arrivals, but also in take-offs. According to OAG data compiled by Statista, five of the ten most demanded air routes in Europe this summer have Spanish airports as their origin or destination, which reinforces the country’s role as a key node on the European air map.
The connection between Rome and Madrid, with 1.32 million expected seats, leads the ranking as the busiest route of the season. It is followed by other important links such as Lisbon-Madrid, Düsseldorf-Palma de Mallorca, Amsterdam-Barcelona and Barcelona-Rome. Madrid appears twice, as does Barcelona, while Palma de Mallorca is in fourth position in terms of the volume of places programmed.

This volume of traffic reflects the strength of Spanish destinations in terms of both holiday tourism and inter-city connectivity. Airlines have responded by increasing frequencies, aware of the strategic importance of these corridors. Not only does Spain receive tourists: it is consolidating its position as one of the main air distribution centres in Europe in the summer months, in a context of strong dynamism in intra-European tourism.
