Spanish and Portuguese destinations unite in a single Iberian destination
16 July, 2025The regions of Extremadura and the Portuguese regions of Alentejo and Centro have launched a common strategy to attract European travellers with a shared offer of culture, nature and gastronomy.
Under the slogan “3 regions, 2 countries and a single heart”, Extremadura and the two regions have joined forces to present themselves as a joint tourist destination. The aim is to reinforce its international positioning and capture part of the 120 million tourists who visit Spain and Portugal every year.

The alliance seeks to take advantage of the complementarity of these territories, all of which are rich in cultural heritage, wine tourism and natural landscapes, and strategically located between Madrid, Seville, Lisbon and Porto. The new strategy, presented in Madrid, also aims to reduce seasonality and strengthen its competitiveness in off-peak seasons.
Évora, capital of Alentejo, will also be European Capital of Culture in 2027, a milestone adding attractiveness to this cross-border proposal. The promoters hope that this cooperation will contribute to positioning the area as a benchmark for sustainable and cultural inland tourism in Europe.
