Malaga airport to double its capacity by 2027
16 July, 2025Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport will expand its terminal to 140,000 m². Aena is preparing a comprehensive renovation to respond to increased passengers and improve their experience.
The project, included in the DORA III plan that will start in 2027, envisages almost doubling the current surface area of the terminal area from 80,000 to 140,000 m2. The project provides for a new dock for flights outside the Schengen area, more security checkpoints, a redesign of the baggage system and an extension of contact positions.

Commercial areas (+41%) and VIP lounges (+43%) will also be expanded, improving services for both tourists and airlines. The airfield will incorporate new taxiways, and accesses, external urbanisation and parking capacity will be optimised.
The elimination of the old Terminal 1 and docks B and C will create a more functional space, adapted to international demand. This expansion reinforces Malaga airport’s position as the main gateway to the Costa del Sol and southern Spain.
