More security and efficiency at Spanish airports

30 July, 2025

The Government has approved an additional investment of €351 million for Spanish airports within the framework of the current DORA II (2022-2026), which will allow Aena to bring forward actions initially planned for the next investment cycle (2027-2031). This early injection is aimed at strengthening security, cyber security and operational efficiency, as well as improving the passenger experience.

Among the most noteworthy items are the 84 million earmarked to speed up the remodelling of the Palma de Mallorca Airport terminal, and the 86 million earmarked for the automation of security filters with EDSCB and ATRS systems. Aena will also invest 62 million in cybersecurity, 65 million in digitalisation and robotisation, and another 15 million in operational and physical security. The electrification of processes, the technical drafting of future projects, and measures against Legionnaire’s disease complete the plan.

The funds will be allocated to key projects at airports such as Alicante-Elche, Valencia, Bilbao, Lanzarote, Ibiza, Malaga, Menorca and the two Tenerife airports. Aena is already preparing DORA III, scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2031, which will represent the biggest wave of airport investment in recent decades.
