Spain leads Europeans’ interest in travelling this summer

13 August, 2025

Spain is consolidating its position as the top destination for European travellers this summer, according to the latest report from the European Travel Commission (ETC). 13% of respondents choose the country as their holiday destination, an increase of five points from the previous year.

The survey, conducted between June and November, reveals that 77% of Europeans plan to travel, despite the uncertain economic context. Most will maintain or increase their budget, with a significant proportion willing to spend between €1,500 and €2,500 per person.

Although July and August remain the most popular months, September is gaining in popularity, chosen by 22% of respondents. Interest in less crowded destinations is also on the rise: 55% plan to travel to little known destinations, compared to 48% last spring.

9% will travel within Europe, with the Mediterranean being the most popular region, with Spain, Italy and Greece leading the way. Travellers value the mild climate, less crowds and better value for money, especially outside the high season.

Air travel remains the most popular mode of transport (53%), although car use is growing at 32%, gaining ground due to its flexibility.
