A new festival inspired by the work of the celebrated artist Goya

16 March, 2022

The celebrated painter Francisco de Goya now has a festival inspired by his art. Taking place in May in Zaragoza, it will include a parade that finishes in the emblematic Plaza del Pilar and a performance by an actor embodying the artist himself.

The first edition of the so-called Fiestas Goyescas will be held in 2022, but they're being set up with a view to making it a regular festival. A range of fantastic events have been programmed for visitors, who will be able to enjoy a large Goyaesque market set up in the plaza alongside a host of cultural activities, including live recreations of Goya's most popular paintings, workshops, and Goyaesque projection mapping onto the town hall façade at night.

In Zaragoza, they’re taking the festival particularly seriously, and are already organising courses and workshops to teach locals how to design, create and prepare appropriate costumes for the festivities. Local businesses have also been involved to ensure its success from the very first edition.
