Will more Brits travel to Spain this year than in 2019?

4 May, 2022

The whole tourist industry is wondering if the British tourists will choose Spain as their preferred travelling destination during the peak season this year, and even if they will do it at a greater degree than they did in 2019. We’ll get a definitive answer after the summer, but for now, at least, we have an indication of their intentions ̶ and it’s looking positive.

The British tourist’s feeling towards Spain is boosted thanks to the removal of health restrictions. That’s what the Smart Observatory report for the 2022 spring season notes, a report carried out by PwC and the Spanish hotel managers association CEHAT (Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation). The document analyses the evolution of the hotel industry in Spain, thus allowing the identification of the industry trends for the next three months.

This research was presented at the beginning of April, and it reflects that while the United Kingdom is still some distance off its 2019 numbers, Brits are “feeling good about travelling to Spain”. Therefore, last-minute bookings are predicted to play a key role. That’s what is expected if we consider the context, with a worldwide pandemic, supply difficulties and a war in Europe. In the end everything will be fine, but there’s some uncertainty in the meanwhile.
