6 keys to creating a sustainable hotel this summer

4 May, 2022

The ideas that can be put into practice to make a hotel progress regarding sustainability are almost endless. That is why it is worth knowing specific experiences, discovering how they work and see if they should be copied, improved, or rejected.

Today, we’re scrutinising Hotel Blaumar, a 4* Superior located on Salou’s Promenade, and which has just reopened its doors with multiple sustainable changes in place ̶ changes that have, in turn, awarded it many recognitions, among which we could highlight the Q Quality Certificate, the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certificate and TripAdvisor’s “Bronze Ecoleaders”.

These are the keys to its success

  1. Installing two charging points for electric cars.
  2. The soap bars left behind by guests will be recycled in a traditional way by the soap maker and reused to make some more.
  3. Providing fair trade coffee in paper capsules made from unbleached, recyclable, and degradable natural fibres at the buffet restaurant.
  4. Installing a virtual concierge with an instant chat feature to improve and speed up communication with guests, and provide assistance at any moment, either before or during the stay.
  5. Creating an ECO Corner space. A relaxation area where you can learn about the many environmental initiatives carried out in its facilities, which were the first in the Costa Daurada area to obtain the European Environmental Management EMAS Certificate in 2000 in the and a place that shows users what they can do to help take care of the planet while staying at the hotel.
  6. Giving out a live cactus as a welcome gift and thanking the guest for adopting it. On the cactus’ ecological wrapping there’s a QR code which shows the instructions to take care of it and that also invites guests to share its growth with the hotel’s followers community.
