Pamplona set to celebrate San Fermin once more

15 June, 2022

The San Fermin Festival in Pamplona (better known as Sanfermines in Spain), which starts on 6 July and lasts for a week, has truly felt the impact of the pandemic over the last two years. This massive celebration, in addition to the local public, attracts people from across Spain and tourists from all over the world.

In 2022, however, normality will be restored. The public will once again be able to enjoy the traditional and spectacular running of the bulls – an event that’s both exciting and dangerous – as well as the rest of the activities planned in a programme that’s set to restore the much-loved festival, which completely transforms this northern town every year for a few days, back to its best.

The 2022 edition of San Fermin will be characterised by continuity with previous editions, with the main novelties this year being the recovery of the Antoniutti park as a street party and food zone, and the moving of the ‘txoznas’ – bars set up in marquees during the festival – to Rochapea.

Plaza del Castillo will also turn into an eighties-style spot to enjoy a drink or two with a DJ and ten bars. As for the rest, Plaza de los Fueros will host the main concerts, Plaza de la Libertad will be the kids’ zone, and Plaza de la Cruz will be the location for the old-timers who love their more traditional street parties. Pamplona will once more be abuzz with its festival Hemingway so famously wrote about.
