Brits overwhelmingly choose Spain as this summer’s holiday destination
22 June, 2022British tourism will once again be the leading market for visitors to Spain in 2022. There were 4.3 million British tourists in 2021, compared to 18 million before the health crisis, but this year the recovery looks set to be even more remarkable. The signs are pointing to a massive influx this summer.
In 2022, British tourists can travel to Spain without restrictions, and “we expect them to make up for the shortfall in tourism from other markets”, explained Alberto Peris, executive director and founding partner of CESAE Business & Tourism School, who points out that “to reach the 2019 figures it is vital that the Brits choose Spain as their holiday destination”. And that’s exactly what seems to be happening.
A recent Hilton survey found British holidaymakers are planning big family holidays in 2022 and expect to spend £1,246 (€1,460) per person, 34 per cent more than pre-pandemic budgets.
This offers reason for optimism among industry professionals, as British tourist spending – as well as German and French – has exceeded pre-pandemic levels even before the start of the summer.
