Tourists to visit Barcelona in small groups

13 July, 2022

Barcelona City Council and official tourist guide associations have reached an agreement to reduce the size of tourist groups visiting the city to a maximum of 30 people per group, which is further limited to 15 in Ciutat Vella, the city’s old town.

This is just one of the aspects included in the ‘Declaration of good practice in guiding groups on Barcelona’s public thoroughfares’, signed by the professional bodies AGUICAT and APIT, which defines the working principles of the group’s activity. The aim is to make tourism more compatible with everyday life in the city.

Other measures covered by the agreement include a commitment to avoiding the use of megaphones, to reduce noise pollution, and to use ‘whisper’ radioguide systems and plan itineraries in a way that minimises the disturbance caused in Barcelona’s various neighbourhoods.
